Reflexology and Essential Oils

What is Reflexology?

Foot Reflexology

It is defined as “a system of massage used to relieve tension and treat illness, based on the theory that there are reflex points on the feet, hands, and head linked to every part of the body.” It focuses primarily on the feet. The theory behind it is there are “reflex” points on the feet and hands that correspond to specific organs, glands, and other parts of the body. Practitioners believe that applying pressure to these reflex areas can promote health in the corresponding organs through energetic pathways.

It dates back to Ancient Egypt, India and China and was not introduced to the West until Dr. William Fitzgerald developed “Zone Therapy”. In the 1930’s Eunice Ingham further developed this zone therapy in to today’s reflexology. She believed that congestion or tension in any part of the foot is mirrored in the corresponding part of the body.
